In Memory of Jayde

This poem is about the early days of grief by a loving mother. It was written by a mother whose baby Jayde was also hospitalized at Sick Kid's, and eventually passed away. Their description of the time spent with Jayde reminded us a lot of our time with Joséphine.

In Memory of Jayde

You came into our lives like a ray of sunshine, so bright, so promising.
You sparked energy in us that we had never felt.
Your warmth and unconditional love kept us craving more.
How could we resist, just one more visit, one more hour.
Time to go home ... it was unbearable leaving everyday without you.
Waking up every morning with the promise of a new day, maybe something had changed.
Nothing.
I sit with you and pray that God is watching over you, taking you every step of the way.
I commend your strength to fight every day just to live.
You had a way about you that was unforgettable.
You challenged us, as parents to be the best we could be; it wasn't hard.
You brightened the room with your spirit and love.
Then the day came when I heard those words ... you were not coming home.
It was time to say goodbye, but not forever.
Did I fail in someway?
Was this punishment?
The answer I would soon learn to these quetsions ... NO.
It appears as though someone thought you were too good for earth.
Not a day goes by that I don't shed a tear for you.
That I don't long to have you next to me.
It gives me comfort to know that we will meet again, Angel.

Love Mommy.
