#5 - Helen Knowles

Age: 27
Shoots: Right

Helen Knowles is in her fifth year with the Chiefs. She played for Peterborough Sr. A team and varsity for the University of Guelph where she was team captain and MVP for two years. As a multi-sported athlete, Helen was awarded MVP in softball on the 1993 provincial championship team, she played for the Chiefs when they won the provincial championship in 1995 and she was on the 1996 national ball hockey championship team. "Hurricane" is originally from Acton.

    #7 - Amanda Smith

    Position: Defense
    Height: 5'11"
    Age: 18
    Shoots: Left

    Amanda Smith is in her second year with the Chiefs and in the COWHL. She played for Brampton Canadettes, Midget A; Team Ontario Under 17 in 1997; and the Under 19 Canadian National Team in 1996. "Bugsey," who calls Hanover home, is also a multi-tasking athlete as she plays basketball, volleyball, softball, OFSSA track and field and soccer at an elite level. Amanda would like to one day play in the Olympics.

    #8 - Carol Cooper

    Height: 5'9"
    Age: 32
    Shoots: Left

    Carol Cooper, a veteran from the Hamilton Golden Hawks and Guelph Eagles, is an elementary school teacher in Peel. Cooper will take the responsibility of captain again this year. She has played in eight national championships and was a final candidate for Team Canada 94. Cooper hails from Fredericton, New Brunswick. While attending the University of New Brunswick, she received the top athlete of the year in 1984. "Coop" has been named to the 1996/97 COWHL second all-star team, awarded COWHL Sportsmanship Award and named 1997 Most Valuable Defence player on the Chiefs.

    #9 - Justine Blainey

    Height: 5'5"
    Age: 24
    Shoots: Right

    Justine Blainey, in her second years as a Chief, is a very accomplished player. She previously played for the North York Aeros and has several provincial championships under her belt. "Tonka" has her cites on developing a wellness centre complete with chiropractors, MDs, nutritionists and naturopaths all working as a team for the better health of their patients.

    #10 - Marni Barrows

    Position:Defense
    Height: 5'7"
    Age: 28
    Shoots: Right

    Marni Barrow is in her fourth year with the Chiefs. Marni comes with plenty of experience from playing varsity with York University, and at the senior AAA level with the Mississauga Warriors, the Toronto Aeros and the Scarborough Firefighters. While at York, she was named as an OWIAA all star. When the Chiefs represented Ontario at the Nationals in 1995, Marni was awarded the Fairplay Award for Ontario. She would love to experience another national championship. Marni is a teacher and currently lives in Tottenham but calls Erin her hometown.

    #12 - Jenny Pettersen

    Position:Forward
    Height: 5'6"
    Age: 29
    Shoots: Right

    Jenny Pettersen will also serve the team as assistant captain. She played varsity hockey while at the University of Guelph, and senior AAA for the Guelph Eagles and the Mississauga Chiefs. She is a firefighter by profession. Jenny is one of the smartest players in the league. She was awarded the WF Mitchell Sportsman Award at the University of Guelph. Jenny's favourite pastimes (other than hockey) are gardening, landscaping and cycling.

    #14 - Karen Pepper

    Position:Forward
    Height: 5'5"
    Age: 32
    Shoots: Right

    Karen Pepper, in her fifth year with the Chiefs, has many years of experience at the Sr AAA level. She has played for the Mississauga Warriors, Scarborough Sting and the Toronto Sr Aeros. "Pep's" experience has also given her bronze and gold medallions from the Canadian national championships. Now she wants to add another gold to her list. She coaches a ball hockey and the Newtonbrook Panthers Senior AA. Karen graduated from Cleveland Dental School and is currently practicing dentistry in Willowdale.

    #15 - Jayna Hefford

    Position:Forward
    Height: 5'5"
    Age: 20
    Shoots: Left

    Jayna Hefford, a native of Kingston, is in her second year with the Chiefs. But, Jayna won't see much icetime in the first half of the season because she is training in Calgary, Alberta with Team Canada preparing for the 1998 Olympics which will take place in Nagamo Japan. She has also put her kinesiology studies at the University of Toronto on hold but eventually plans on a career in sports medicine and physical fitness. As a member of Team Canada, she received a gold medal at the 1997 World Championships in Kitchener.

    #16 - Jennifer Goulet

    Position:Forward
    Height: 5'6"
    Age: 18
    Shoots: Left

    Jennifer Goulet is a rookie with the Chiefs this year and hails from Cochrane, Ontario. "Pipes" previously played for the Timmins Ice Cats Senior A team. She is an OAC student in the elite athlete program at Vaughan Road CI in the City of York. Jennifer is also a multi-tasking athlete and has won MVP awards in volleyball, hockey, track and field and was named 1996/7 female athlete of the year from her high school. She plans on a career in sports therapy.

    #17 - Tara McKay

    Position:Forward
    Height: 5'4"
    Age: 25
    Shoots: Right

    Tara McKay has been with the Chiefs for three years. She has previously played for Scarborough Sting and the London Devilettes. Tara is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario and is a police officer with the Metro Toronto Police Service. While in police college, Tara received the highest mark for a female in physical education. Stouffville is home for Tara and when she's not working or playing hockey she likes to golf and run with Easton.

    #18 - Margot Page

    Age: 33
    Shoots: Right

    Margot Page is one of three players chosen by the Team Canada coaches as outstanding performers during the 1994 World Championships. She has also played for the Canadian championship team, the Toronto Aeros. She is the female varsity ice hockey coach at Niagara University, Niagara Falls, NY and she operates the highly rated MVP Hockey School for girls every summer. And to add to her list of kudos, Margot is TSN's women's hockey analyst. In 1996/97, Margo received numerous awards in the COWHL, namely, top scorer, MVP and named to the first all-star team. Besides hockey, this native of Kitchener likes to play Gaelic football and working out.

    Sharon Williamson is a veteran Senior AAA player who played most of her career for the Scarborough Girls Hockey League including Scarborough Sting (Sr. AAA). Her kudos in the Central Ontario Women's Hockey League include rookie of the year in 1991 and sportsmanship award in 1993. When she's not playing hockey, the important things in life to Sharon are her family, her career as a medical secretary and skiing.

    #22 - Stephanie Boyd

    Age: 25
    Shoots: Left

    Stephanie Boyd is a rookie with the Chiefs this year, but at the same time, she is a ten- year veteran in the COWHL. A native of Gravenhurst, "Boyder" began playing in the COWHL at 14. She has played for the Toronto Red Wings, Toronto Aeros, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues and the US National Team. She has won numerous awards both in the COWHL and the OWIAA including rookie-of-the year, MVP, and named to all-star teams in both leagues. While at U of T, she was captain and nominated for athlete of the year. Professionally, she is a sales specialist with Nike. And for eight years now, Stephanie has owned and operated a female hockey school in Gravenhurst during the summer.

    #23 - Sarah Applegarth

    Age: 23
    Shoots: Right

    Sarah Applegarth, a fine two way player, hails from Burlington. She has played for Burlington Sr. B and while attending the University of Guelph she played varsity hockey for the Guelph Gryphons. Sarah was named to the OWIAA all-star team in 1994/96/97 and was invited to the 1997 Team Canada national camp. She would like to pursue a career in coaching and possibly take a masters degree in exercise and physiology.

    Michelle Campbell is another rookie on the Chiefs but by far a novice to the COWHL. She has previously played for the Hamilton Golden Hawks, Scarborough Firefighters and Newtonbrook Panthers. While at university, Michelle was captain for the York Yoewomen hockey team. Professionally, Michelle is a customer information specialist for Navicom Inc., a business research firm. During the summer, she is an instructor at Stephanie Boyd's Female Hockey School. A native of Orangeville, Michelle makes Scarborough her home.

    Andria Hunter has put women's hockey on the map -- the global map that is. She created and maintains a web page on female hockey that links to other pages around the world. Visit her at www.whockey.com. She was a member of the 1992 and 1994 Team Canada and she played varsity for the U of New Hampshire and the U of T. Andria was selected to the first OWIAA all-star team for five years. In 1993/94 she played in Langentual Switzerland. Although this is only her second year with the Chiefs, Andria has many years of experience in the COWHL. Coaching is on her list of things I must try one day.

    #29 - Brenda Denault

    Brenda Deneault is in her second year with the Chiefs, coming from the now defunct Newtonbrook Panthers. She is a two-time COWHL MVP and has been named to the COWHL all-star team since her induction into the league in 1993. Brenda is one of four Ontario goaltenders selected to tryout for Team Canada in 1995 and 1997. Next to ice hockey, Brenda finds roller hockey her favourite pastime.

    #33 - Tania Pinelli

    Position:Goalie
    Height: 5'7"
    Age: 18
    Catches: Left

    Tania Pinelli hails from Hamilton. "Scooter" has played for the Dafasco Midget team, the Stoney Creek Sr. B and was a member of the 1995 Team Ontario which won the gold medal at the 95 Canada Winter Games and was a member of the 1997 under 18 team. This is her third year with the Chiefs. In the COWHL, Tania was named to the 1997 all- star team and had the lowest goals against average in the league. Playing hockey is Tania's favourite pastime and she would love to have a chance to play for the Team Canada.
