Offense Drill 5: Triangle Regroup, Drill #1
Purpose
Flow drill to create movement with good passing, one time shots,
width and depth.
Description
Starts with X2 making pass to X3.
X1 and X2 skate and crossover in neutral zone (creates depth);
X2 crosses over low and X1 crosses over high.
X3 steps up and makes pass to either X1 or X2.
Lateral pass with 1-timer shot (a must).
Players rotate lines counter-clockwise, X2 backchecks hard after
play on net and goes to X3 line.
Whistle start.
Key Teaching Points
Players must accelerate through the neutral zone and pivot to face passer.
X3 must remain high, in case of a turnover.
Variations
- Make passes off boards (bank passes) which are essential for
long passes in this game.
Triangle Regroup, Drill #2
Purpose
Flow drill to create movement with good passing, one time shots, width and depth.
Description
Same as Triangle Regroup, Drill #1, but add a fourth player behind
the net who is another option on the attack.
Key Teaching Points
Players must accelerate through the neutral zone and pivot to face passer.
X3 must remain high, in case of a turnover.
Variations
- Board or bank passes.
- Also, place pucks in one corner, after initial shot or scoring
chance, prepare for gaining control and re-grouping for second
wave of attack.
- *X4 retrieves puck from corner and passes out to X3 (high player),
while X1 and X2 re-position for attack, then rotate with X2 as
backchecker.
- Add coaches to middle to stop any bad passes through the
middle (passive pressure).
