Team Overview

On September 1, 1998 the NCCP (National Capital Competitive Program) Raiders "AAA" Hockey Club held their first official team meeting which was attended by 20 excited and energetic young women were now team members. This was history in the making for this elite level of competitive hockey in the Ottawa area. For the first time, Ottawa will be the home of a women's "AAA" hockey team.

The NCCP organization for many years produced high quality hockey players only to see many relocate to other major centres where they were able to combine a high level of hockey development and the pursuit of College/University academic studies. The establishment of the NCCP Raiders AAA program coupled with the academically respected and high level learning centres in the city will now provide another option to the regions talented young women.

The name "Raiders" originates from the first competitive female hockey team established in Ottawa in the early 80's. It wasn't long before the challenge and excitement of playing at a high competitive level caught the attention of the growing community of female hockey players in the area and the original Ottawa-Nepean Raiders Bantam "A" team planted the seed for the growth of competitive women's hockey in the region. The "Raiders" set the tone and the style of hockey in all of Ontario, during the early 80's, and the current NCCP organization continues to carry on with that same high standard.

Today "excellent" hockey has become a NCCP tradition. In the same tradition the 1998-99 Senior AAA Raiders will strive for excellence, both on and off the ice. The players are proud to wear the red sweater and continue to live up to the NCCP and Raider history of commitment, fair play, desire and the promotion of women's hockey.

This first year of play will be exciting for not only the team but for the fans in the region also. The Raiders promise to provide competitive hockey, enjoyable entertainment and a build a good future for Senior AAA hockey in Ottawa. The Raiders will provide a means whereby the future dreams of the young female hockey players from Nepean, Kanata, Gloucester, Bel Air and Ottawa and surrounding centres can be realized.
