Team Overview

The Chiefs enter the new season with a number of changes to their roster. The return of Rick Osborne as Head Coach encourages the Mississauga supporters and Rick's leadership, coupled with a strong group of core players, should assure the Chiefs remain one of the strong teams in the 1998-99 season.

Veterans, Sarah Applegarth, Andria Hunter, Karen Pepper, Jenny Pettersen and Sharon Williams will be counted on to provide leadership up front, Helen Knowles will be looked to for toughness, Heather Richardson will add team speed and the return of Liz Duval will assist a very capable group of veteran forwards. Second year players Amanda Smith and Jennifer Goulet will be expected to contribute more with their inaugural season behind them.

Team Captain, Carol Cooper and Marni Barrow will again anchor a strong defense. The defense will be assisted with the return of Nathalie Rivard and Stephanie Campbell from a year's sabbatical of Senior AAA hockey.

Defense starts in goal and the Chiefs will be very strong in goal with the net being protected by two of the best - Brenda Deneault and Jenn Dewar.

Rookies

A number of outstanding rookies will be with Mississauga this season. Forwards Annie Fahlenbock (Junior Aeros) Britney Millar (Brampton Intermediates) and Sue Ann Van Damme (University of Toronto) will be tested very quickly and are expected to contribute fully in the 98/99 season. Shannon Grimbly (Junior Aeros) will also contribute as a first year AAA player, but will also gain valuable experience by working with the capable and veteran players on the Chiefs defense.

Coach's Comment

"Excellent goaltending, solid defense and outstanding talent and depth up front is how I would describe this year's Chiefs. I would also describe the league as the most competitive I have ever seen, which is perfect for the Chiefs - a challenging season ahead."
