According to the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel, there is talk about starting a women's pro hockey league next year.
The NCAA does not sponsor a championship in women's ice hockey, and it will not become an Olympic sport until next year.
But a corporation has been formed to develop a women's pro hockey league, and several players say they would be interested.
Organizers are hoping to capitalize on the anticipated success of the U.S. women at the next Olympics to gain the benefit that beach volleyball, softball and basketball acquired from previous Olympics.
"It is everyone's dream to have a pro league after the Olympics," said Cammi Granato, a player from Downers Grove, Illinois. "To know the possibility is out there for us to play professionally is motivational. Ever since I grew up playing in a hockey family, I wanted to play professionally. We would all get together and practice in the basement. There are still puck marks on the wall."
Her brother, Tony, plays for the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League.
