Women's European Hockey Championship

1996 Pool A


From March 23-29th 1996, the European A Championship was held in Yaroslavl, Russia. Sweden is the 1996 European A Champion! Germany moves down to the European B Championship for 1997. Sweden, Russia, Finland, Norway and Switzerland qualify for the 1997 World Championship in Kitchener (Canada).

Over 5,000 fans attended the tournament. Russian Radio and TV coverage was present. This ECC is getting big attention! Attendance at the Switzerland-Germany game was 2300, and attendance at the Switzerland-Russia game was 4300!

"Fair Play" Award

Having 20 minutes of penalty time all in all, the Swedish Team has received the "Fair Play" Award. German girls had the second result - 40 minutes, the Finnish had the third one with 47 min. and the Russians were fourth with 48 minutes of total penalty time.
