1996 North American
Roller Hockey Championship
Here are the results of the women's division at the 1996 North American Roller Hockey Championship that was held near Chicago this past weekend (Aug 23-25, 1996). The Toronto Tornados defeated the Toronto Tigers by a score of 6-0 in the gold medal game. In the bronze medal game, it was the Femme Fatale over the Black Widows in overtime by a score of 1-0.
All in all, it was a fun, very well-organized tournament. I had fun meeting a few people at the tournament who are also on the women-in-hockey mailing list!! :-)
The increased interest in the women's division was nice to see. Soon they'll have to have qualifiers as is the case for the men's divisions! There were 16 women's teams that took part in the championship. The competition seemed even tougher than last year.
