Saskatchewan

A high school girls' hockey team in Saskatchewan is Athol Murray College of Notre Dame. That's located in Wilcox, Sask just 45 km South of Regina. I don't know if you're familiar with the name or school but they have produced hockey players like CuJo, Rod Brind'Amour, Wendel Clarke, Kent Manderville, and Russ Courtnal. Toronto (TDCAA)

The Pope John Paul II Panthers defeated rival Loretto Abbey by a score of 2-0 to win the 1997 TDCAA girls' hockey title. The game took place at the Malvern arena in April 1997.

Renfrew County

1995-96 Teams:

Fellowes H.S. won the "A" County championship in 1996, and Bishop Smith was the runner up. Madawaska won the "B" side, and Jeanne-Lajoie was the runner up.

The 1996-97 County championship was held during March 1997 at the Petawawa Civic Centre.

We have had a Girls' High School hockey league for 5 years in Sudbury and found that we have very competitive teams not only in our league but in the province. For the 1996-97 season, we have the following 8 teams:

Our league play consists of 12 games, we host our own tournament (usually in December), and most teams attend at least one out of town tournament.

Marymount completes a 31 game undefeated season by winning their 4th consecutive City Championship.

OFFSA

The Lambton Central Collegiate Vocational Institute (LCCVI) won the 1999-2000 OFSAA Girls Hockey Championship 'A' division against St. Pius Ottawa 5-4 in Overtime. Carolyn Gordon scored with 19 seconds left in overtime. The winning goalie was Ashlee Liffiton. Team members included: Dayna Kapala, Ashlee Liffiton, Charity McNally, Meghan Hunter, Allison Edgar, Danelle Elliott, Jocelyn Steadman, Nicole Dobbin, Colleen Chapman, Jessica Lucas, Nerissa Podlinsky, Michelle Ryan, Dana Pettigrew and Keri Jo Whitlaw.

February 1996

Referee Bruce Tennant started a girls' high school hockey tournament in 1992 with a handful of teams. Now, it's the largest of its kind in Canada with 75 Ontario schools competing for the 1996 Canadian Tire Cup on Valentine's Day (Feb 14, 1996).

February 1997

The Canadian Tire Classic took place from February 10-12, 1997 at the Ice Gardens at York University. There were a maximum of 80 teams, up from 60 last year. There were 4 divisions - ranging from the top teams in the "A" division to the beginners in the "D" division. The cost was $425 per high school team. (The Ice Gardens is a 6 pad facility completed in September 1996).

The sixth Annual Canadian Tire Girls' High School Hockey Classic took place from February 9-11, 1998 at the Chesswood Arena four rink complex in North York.

March Beatrice Classic

The March Beatrice Classic took place at the Ice Gardens from March 9-10 1998 for the C, D, and DD categories and March 11-12 1998 for the A, B and remaining categories. St Michael's from Stratford won the C division, Listowel District Secondary School won the D division, and St. Mary's won the DD category. All three teams are from Perth County.


Metro Girls High School All-Star Classic

The 2nd annual Metro Girls High School All-star Classic was held at Varsity arena on March 26th 1998 from 3pm to 9pm. The top female high school hockey players in southern Ontario played for their school boards rather than just their school. Over 50 high schools were represented on the 8 teams. This tournament was organized by Bruce Tennant (416)579-1560.
