Women's ice hockey has taken roots across Asia and we're not just talking about Japan, China, and Australia!! It's now being played in countries such as Hong Kong (not to be confused with China), the Philippines, Singapore, and even Thailand, thanks to the presence of so many expatriates living and working in these regions!!
Women's inline hockey is also starting to become popular in Singapore. Singapore sent a women's team to the second-ever Women's Inline Hockey World Championship, which was held in Pisek, Czech Republic.
Women's Inline Hockey in Singapore has been around since the year 2000 when the first all girls team "Comets" was formed to take part in the Sin Boon Ann Cup against men's teams.
Since then, more girls have been taking up hockey and the first and long awaited Women's Inline Hockey Challenge (WIHC 2003) organised by Skateline, was held in 2003. See http://www.skatelinehockey.org/news/women-tournament.htm.
In 2003, Singapore also sent a women's team to the FIRS World Championships, and aims to make it's appearance in even more international tournaments in the future!
