Romania will compete in international competition for the first time at the 2001 IIHF World Women Championship Div I Qualification. Romania is hosting this event.

3 teams compete in the Womens championship; Triumf Bucuresti, SC Miercurea Ciuc and Progym Gheorgheni. There have been plans for a team in Galati too.
