Now, the new (and old) 1997 German Women's Ice Hockey Championship winner is ESG Esslingen! Congratulations!! Esslingen wins its 3rd championship in a row!
The final game was played in the presence of 1300 spectators (a great number of people for german relations!). The game took place on Sun Feb 23, 1997. Esslingen won against TuS Wiehl 13:0 (5:0, 2:0, 6:0). Sucefull Scorer was with 4 goals Sandra Kuerten, one of the 3 Kuerten-Sisters in team Esslingen (all Sisters played also in the nationalteam (Goalie, Defence and Center))!

The final tournament for the German women's National Championship started on the weekend of Feb 17 and 18, 1996 in Wiehl. Quarter-final action saw Grefrath, Esslingen, Wiehl and Geretsried advance to the semi-finals. ESG Esslingen and TuS Wiehl advanced to the gold medal game, with ESG Esslingen winning by a score of 4-0 to claim the 1995-96 German National Championship.
