The year started off with 31 players attending a National Evaluation camp from January 27 until February 2nd at the Beatrice Ice Gardens in Toronto, Ontario. Then 25 players suited up for Canada to play in two exhibition games, as part of the TSN Challenge. On February 2nd Team USA defeated Team Canada in the first game (held in Buffalo) by a score of 4-1, while two nights later at the Air Canada Centre in Canada, Team Canada defeated the USA by a score of 6-0.
The January evaluation camp and tour represent the third and final evaluation step for the National Women's Team as it prepares to name its final roster for the 2000 IIHF Women's World Hockey Championship. Over 40 women's players in Canada are still being considered for Canada's roster at the 2000 Women's World Championship.
Canada's national team claimed their 6th consectutive World Championship title, as they defeated the U.S.A. in the overtime in the championship game!
The Canadian Hockey Association hosted a summer evaluation camp for 42 players, from August 13-21, in Calgary, Alberta. The camp roster was made up of 13 silver medallists from the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, and 18 members of the gold medal 2000 Women's World Championship team. This camp was used to evaluate players who will represent Canada at various international tournaments in 2000-2001, including the 2001 IIHF Women's World Championships, to be held in Minneapolis in the spring of 2001.
From October 3-10 the CHA hosted another evaluation camp for 34 players in Calgary, Alberta. After this camp, they selected the team that is to compete at the 2000 Four Nations' Cup tournament.
