Christmas 2022

Hi Everyone!

We would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year for 2023!

It has been a great year for the most part, although we've had some transitions and losses. Andria's dad, Terry, had been suffering from Binswanger, a form of vascular dementia, and had been gradually declining for the past ten years. He spent the past four years in a nursing home in Peterborough, and this spring he contracted Covid. He was not able to fight it off, and passed away in May, the day after his 84th birthday. He touched a lot of people's lives, and is dearly missed.

Andria's mom, Ruth, is still living on her own in Lakefield, about 2 hours away from us. Célia graduated from Saint-Frère-André (SFA) high school in June, and in September, started studying biology at Trent University in Peterborough. We're not sure who is happier about her going to Trent, Célia or Grandma Ruth who lives only 10 minutes away! On occasion, Grandma even takes her out for meals and delivers groceries to her dorm room!

This past summer both Célia and her brother Rémy worked at the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE), making treats, such as funnel cakes and cheese cake on a stick! They both enjoyed their work experience, although they may never want to see or smell another deep-fried funnel cake again!

Rémy is in Grade 10 at SFA, and is playing hockey for SFA and for the Duffield Devils GTHL "A" team. One highlight this fall was that Andria & Rémy went to a tournament in Nashville with the Devils. They enjoyed some line dancing and country music, and the Devils ended up winning the tournament. The ride home was a 14-hour ordeal on the "plague" bus, as 4 people tested positive for Covid when they got back, and 3 of them were sitting around Andria! Fortunately, and surprisingly, both Andria and Rémy managed to dodge it!

Our youngest daughter Camille graduated from Grade 6 in June, and is now also at SFA! This fall, after not having played hockey for 3 years, she decided to play boys' house league hockey with the Mimico Canadiens. Camille enjoys taking sewing lessons, and also swims 3 times per week with the Lakeshore Swim Club. She took part in her first swim meet this fall and did quite well.

Over the course of the year, our little dwarf bunny Do-Do started to decline, and gradually lost most of his mobility. In the summer he celebrated his 11th birthday, which is very old for a bunny. By the fall, he could no longer stand. At the end of November, we sadly had to say goodbye, as he had developed an abscess on his jaw. We really miss him.

As for Andria, she is never short of projects to keep her busy! This year, she temporarily transformed our dining room into a VHS digitization studio, and began digitizing our and her parents' entire collection of VHS tapes. This was long overdue, in order to preserve precious family memories, including all of Andria's Team Canada hockey games, which her dad had videotaped in 1992 and 1994 (and her Team Canada inline hockey games in 2002, UNH in the 80's, and UofT in the 90's)!

This fall, Marc joined the choir at the local church (St-Leo's) and is really enjoying it.

Noël 2022

Bonjour à tous et à toutes,

Nous aimerions tout d'abord vous offrir nos meilleurs vœux pour un très Joyeux Noël, ainsi qu'une Bonne, Heureuse et Sainte Année 2023!

L'année fut excellente en grande partie, mais nous avons aussi vécu des transitions, ainsi que des pertes d'êtres chers. Terry, le père d'Andria, souffrait depuis une dizaine d'années de la maladie Binswanger, une forme de démence vasculaire, et déclinait lentement. Il vivait depuis quatre ans dans un foyer à Peterborough, et ce printemps, avait attrapé la Covid. Il n'a pu s'en remettre, et est décédé au mois de mai, un jour après avoir célébré son 84e anniversaire. Il avait touché la vie de beaucoup de gens, et laisse un grand vide.

La mère d'Andria, Ruth Hunter, habite toujours à Lakefield, à environ deux heures d'ici. Notre fille aînée Célia a terminé ses études à l'école secondaire Saint-Frère-André (SFA) au mois de juin, et en septembre, a commencé ses études en biologie à Trent University, à Peterborough. Cette décision a su plaire autant à Célia qu'à sa grand-maman Ruth, qui habite à environ 10 minutes de la résidence de Trent! Grand-maman aime bien la sortir de temps en temps, ou lui apporter de la nourriture.

Cet été, Célia et son frère Rémy ont tous les deux travaillé dans des kiosques de nourriture au Canadian National Exhibition (CNE), et confectionnaient surtout des desserts congelés ou fris. Ils ont bien aimé l'expérience, mais ne s'ennuieront probablement pas de faire des desserts congelés et de la grande friture!

Rémy est maintenant en 10e année à SFA, et joue au hockey pour son école, ainsi que pour les Devils de Duffield "A" de la GTHL. Les Devils ont eu beaucoup de succès dans les tournois, comme celui à Nashville au mois de décembre. Ils ont remporté le championnat, et en ont aussi profité pour savourer la musique country, et faire du "line dancing". Par contre, lors du voyage du retour de 14 heures en autobus, trois personnes à bord ont testé positif pour la Covid. Heureusement, Rémy et Andria, qui l'avait accompagné, ont été épargnés!

Notre fille cadette, Camille, a terminé sa 6e année au mois de juin, et est maintenant elle aussi à SFA! Cet automne, après un hiatus de 3 ans, elle a décidé de recommencer à jouer au hockey, et joue avec les Canadiens de Mimico. Elle continue de prendre des cours de couture, et faire de la natation. Elle a d'ailleurs participé à sa première compétition de natation, où elle a bien réussi.

Au cours de l'année notre super gentil lapin Dodo avait commencé à décliner, et tranquillement perdu de plus en plus de mobilité. En août, nous avons célébré son 11e anniversaire de naissance, ce qui est très vieux pour un lapin. Au mois de novembre, nous avons malheureusement dû dire adieu à notre petit lapin, Dodo. Il nous manque beaucoup.

Quant à Andria, elle a toujours mille et un projets! Cette année, elle a entrepris de convertir notre entière collection de cassettes VHS, ainsi que celle de ses parents, en format numérique. Notre salle à dîner fut temporairement transformé en studio de digitalisation, afin de pouvoir préserver nos précieux souvenirs familiaux, incluant les enregistrements des parties de hockey d'Andria pour Équipe Canada en 1992, 1994, et 2002!

Ça lui a fait aussi très chaud au cœur de participer au vidéoclip du Défi Ma Louise pour célébrer le 20e anniversaire du groupe trad Québécois, Le Vent du Nord : https://youtu.be/EIfW2Vxp-2A. Cet automne, Marc s'est joint à la chorale de l'église St-Leo, tout près de chez nous, et il aime beaucoup ça.
