Christmas 2004

Hello Everyone!

We hope you've all had a great year! We'd like to start by wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We wish you a wonderful holiday season, filled with happiness, laughter, and fun with your family and friends.

The year 2004 was a particularly busy one for our household, especially with the addition of little Célia in October 2003! We thought that she would adapt to our schedule and also be a night owl, but we were in for a surprise! Can you imagine that we now consider going to bed past 10pm as staying up late!

Célia already knows how to say a few words, such as Mommy ("mama"), Papa ("papa"), our cat Samba ("baba"), and her favourite fruit banana ("nana"). She can sign quite a few words in ASL (American Sign Language), such as water, milk, food, more, hat, and dog... the funny thing is that we have a cat, but no dog! She loves to chat, and read her books out loud, in her own language, of course! She is VERY vocal ... perhaps she'll have a singing career one day!

She learned to crawl at the cottage this summer, which she thought was great because she could then chase Samba around. Now that she is walking, Samba has to really stay on her paws! For the most part Samba and Célia get along well, but there have been a few cat fights. Célia also loves to go to the pool, to the drop-in centre, and to the library for baby time. But most of all, she loves to play with her favourite rag doll, "Pajama Pam".

Andria was on maternity leave up until the end of August, and is now back at the University of Toronto. She teaches Computer Science to two classes that have a total of about 400 students each term. Leslie, Andria's sister, looks after Célia when Andria is at the university: Célia loves this because she gets to play with her cousin Connor, who's only four months older than her. Andria hasn't played hockey this year due to three herniated discs (one is pressing on the nerve causing numbness in her foot), but fortunately she has been too busy with parenting and work to miss it too much!

Marc is still working in computer graphics at Alias; the company was once again recognized as one of Canada's top 100 em- ployers, by McLean's magazine.

As for our fa- milies, 2004 was a difficult one for us. First, Marc's mother was hospitalized in February and passed away in April, after a short battle with brain cancer. We miss her very much, but we are grateful that she at least got to meet Célia, her first grand-child. We made several trips up north to be with Marc's family. As for Marc's father, he's still living in Kapuskasing; he's finding it lonely without Marc's mom and is unfortunately still suffering from shingles.

Raymonde (Marc's sister) and Marcel had a little girl, Isabelle, who was born prematurely on August 2nd, and only weighed about one and a half pounds. She is still in intensive care at the hospital in Hamilton, but her health has been improving lately and she is now up to four and a half pounds.

Andria's family is doing well. Grandma and Grandpa Hunter have come to visit Célia quite a few times. Célia celebrated her first birthday on Thanksgiving weekend at their farm in Peterborough. This year, we will be spending Christmas at home, and travelling to the Niagara area for the traditional Hunter Christmas dinner.

Noël 2004

Bonjour tout l'monde!

Nous aimerions d'abord souhaiter à tous et à toutes un très Joyeux Noël, ainsi qu'une Bonne, Heureuse et Sainte Année 2005, et que vous passerez tous un joyeux temps des fêtes avec parents et amis.

L'année 2004 fut assez mouvementée pour nous, surtout avec l'addition de la charmante petite Célia dans notre famille en octobre 2003! Nous pensions que Célia s'ajusterait à notre horaire, et qu'elle serait elle aussi un oiseau de nuit, mais c'est plutôt le contraire qui est arrivé! Qui aurait pu prévoir que nous considérerions maintenant veiller tard que de nous coucher passé 22h00!

Elle sait déja dire quelques mots (entre autres, maman, papa, «baba» pour notre chatte Samba, et «banana» pour son fruit préféré), et peut exprimer plusieurs mots en ASL («American Sign Language»), tels que eau, lait, manger, plus, chapeau, et chien... le plus drôle, c'est que nous avons une chatte, mais pas de chien! Elle aime bien jaser, et lire ses livres à haute voix, dans son langage à elle, évidemment! Disons qu'elle aime bien vocaliser et qu'elle a de très bons poumons : elle pourrait possiblement envisager une carrière comme chanteuse, ou encore dans le sport :^)

Elle a appris à se promener à quatre pattes cet été, et dernièrement, elle marche de plus en plus. Une chose ne change pas, par contre : Célia aime bien pourchasser Samba! Disons que les deux s'entendent assez bien! Célia aime aussi aller à la piscine, au centre pour enfants en bas âge, ainsi qu'à la bibliothèque pour l'heure de la lecture pour enfants. Par dessus tout, elle adore jouer avec sa poupée préférée, «Pyjama Pam».

Andria était en congé de maternité jusqu'à la fin août, et est maintenant de retour au travail à l'université de Toronto. Elle enseigne l'informatique à plus de 450 étudiants et étudiantes. Leslie, la soeur d'Andria, s'occupe de Célia lorsqu'Andria est à l'université : Célia aime bien ça car elle peut jouer avec son cousin Connor, qui est son aîné d'à peine quatre mois. En passant, Andria n'a pas joué au hockey de l'année parce qu'elle a trois disques lombaires qui sont herniés. Nous avons bien hâte qu'elle s'en remettre complètement!

Marc travaille toujours en infographie à Alias; la compagnie a d'ailleurs été de nouveau reconnu comme l'un des 100 meilleurs employeurs du Canada par le magazine McLean's.

Côté famille, l'année 2004 fut assez difficile pour nous. Tout d'abord, la mère de Marc dut être hospitalisée au mois de février, et succomba au cancer du cerveau au mois d'avril. Elle nous manquent beaucoup, mais nous sommes tout de même reconnaissants qu'elle a au moins eu l'occasion de rencontrer Célia, son premier petit-enfant. Nous avons fait plusieurs voyages dans le nord de l'Ontario pour être avec la famille de Marc. Quant au père de Marc, il souffre toujours du zona et trouve la maison bien vide à Kapuskasing.

Raymonde (la soeur de Marc) et Marcel ont eu une petit fille, Isabelle, qui est née prématurément le 2 août, et ne pesait qu'à peine une livre et demi. Elle est toujours aux soins intensifs, mais dernièrement sa santé s'améliore beaucoup plus, et aux dernières nouvelles, pesait maintenant 4 livres et demi.

La famille d'Andria se porte assez bien. Grand-maman et grand-papa Hunter sont souvent venus chez nous pour rendre visite à Célia. Célia a d'ailleurs célébré son premier anniversaire de naissance chez ceux-ci, à Peterborough, lors la fin de semaine de l'action de grâce. Cette année, nous célèbrerons Noël chez nous à Toronto, et irons dans la région du Niagara pour le traditionnel souper de Noël Hunter.
