Christmas 2000

Hello Everyone!

Wow, another year has passed already - time sure flies when you're newly weds! Overall, things are going well, and we're both as busy as ever!

Marc recently accepted a full-time position as Senior Software Engineer at Alias|Wavefront, a computer graphics software developer in downtown Toronto. His PhD thesis is almost complete: it's called "Numerical Methods for Illumination Integrals." He looks forward to completing his degree requirements in the new year. Marc, who was the statistician for the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) during the 1999-2000 season, is now the official statistician of the Mississauga Ice Bears of the NWHL.

Andria is keeping busy teaching Computer Science at the University of Toronto. She also continues to maintain her women's hockey web site at www.whockey.com. She played inline hockey for the Toronto Typhoon again this past summer. Her team placed 1st at the Global Inline festival in Kitchener, 2nd at the North American Roller Hockey Championship (NARCh) in Brampton, and 1st at the Topcat Women's Challenge in California.

In April, Andria was honoured by the PGHA and the city of Peterborough during a 2000 Women's World Ice Hockey Championship game between China and Sweden, which has held in Peterborough. Her World Championship medals, jerseys, and other paraphernalia have been on display at the Peterborough Sports Hall of Fame since this time. Andria is playing for the Mississauga Ice Bears (www.icebears.net) of the NWHL (www.nwhlhockey.com) this season. This is essentially the same team as last season (the Mississauga Chiefs), with a new team name, image, and owner. The new owner for the team, Mercedes-Benz, has a great incentive program for the players. Each week a brand new Mercedes sports car (specially painted in the team's colours) is lent out to the player-of-the-week. We've included a few pictures of the car for your amusement! It was a little hard to switch back to driving the Honda, but a bit of a relief to give up the car while it was still in one piece! :-)

Among the highlights of this year were of course celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary, at a French restaurant in Toronto. We attended Heather Anderson and André Breau's wedding - it was the first wedding that we've been to that was so hot that they had to call the fire department! Our friends Bizu and Gina visited us from Switzerland for two weeks in the middle of the summer. We attended a video dance party in Keene. At the end of the summer we took a two week vacation to the Gaspé area to visit Marc's relatives and to do some sight seeing. We had a roommate for the months of September and October, while our friend Pierre from Montréal was on his sabbatical, working in Toronto. He was *really* sad to leave us, as he headed off to continue his sabbatical in Hawaii and then in France! :-)

We had quite a few other visitors (Karen, Anthony, Linnea, & Peter, Pauline & Laurianne, Raymonde & Marcel, Hil, Claire, Martin & Anne, the Ice Bears sleepover gang & numerous others) dropping by this year, from places like Sudbury, Ottawa, Val Brillant, Kitchener, Peterborough, and of course the GTA. We enjoyed your company! If you're ever in the Toronto area, please feel free to drop by ... Marc will only be too happy to cook up a batch of crêpes with real maple syrup for our overnight visitors!

This year we'll be visiting Andria's side of the family for Christmas. We're hoping to meet up with Marc's family in Sudbury for New Year's Eve.

Salut tout l'monde!

Voilà déjà une autre année qui s'achève - c'est fou ce que le temps passe vite lorqu'on est de jeunes mariés! En gros, tout va assez bien ici, et nous sommes tous deux aussi occupés que jamais!

Marc a récemment accepté un emploi à plein temps en tant qu'ingénieur informatique supérieur à Alias|Wavefront, une compagnie d'infographie située au centre-ville de Toronto. Sa thèse de doctorat est maintenant presque terminée, et s'intitulera «Numerical Methods for Illumination Integrals». Il a bien hâte de recevoir son doctorat durant la nouvelle année. Marc, qui était le statisticien de la Ligue Nationale de Hockey Féminin (LNHF) durant la saison 1999-2000, est maintenant le statisticien officiel des Ice Bears de Mississauga de la LNHF.

Andria est passablement occupée : en plus d'enseigner l'informatique à l'université de Toronto, elle s'occupe de la mise à jour de son site web à www.whockey.com. Cet été, elle a de nouveau joué au hockey à roues alignées avec le Typhoon de Toronto. L'équipe s'est classée 1^ère au Global Inline festival à Kitchener, ON, 2^ième au tournoi NARCh à Brampton, ON, et 1^ère au Topcat Women's Challenge en Californie.

En avril, le PGHA et la ville de Peterborough ont fait honneur à Andria lors d'une partie du Championnat mondial de hockey féminin 2000, disputé à Peterborough entre la Chine et la Suède. Ses médailles, ses chandails, ainsi que divers articles des championnats mondiaux auxquels elle a participé, sont exposés au Temple de la renomée de Peterborough depuis ce temps. Andria joue présentement pour les Ice Bears de Mississauga (www.icebears.net) de la LNHF (www.nwhlhockey.com). Cette équipe, qui évoluait l'an passé sous le nom des Chiefs de Mississauga, a maintenant un nouveau propriétaire, soit Mercedes-Benz. Pour inciter les joueuses à bien performer, le propriétaire prête à la joueuse de la semaine un modéle sport décapotable, peint aux couleurs de l'équipe! Nous avons cru bon en montrer quelques photos! C'est à regret que nous avons dû éventuellement reprendre notre bonne vieille Honda! :-)

Un des hauts faits de l'année fut sans doute notre souper dans un restaurant français de Toronto, à l'occasion de notre premier anniversaire de mariage. Nous étions



également présent au mariage de Heather Anderson et André Breau : ce fut sans doute le mariage le plus «hot» de l'année, puisque le service des incendies a dû être appelé au beau milieu de la cérémonie! Nos amies Bizu et Gina sont venues de la Suisse nous rendre visite pendant deux semaines au courant de l'été. Nous avons participé à une soirée de dance vidéo à Keene. Vers la fin de l'été, nous avons profité de deux semaines de vacances pour visiter la parenté de Marc et faire le tour de la Gaspésie. Nous avons eu un pensionnaire au cours des mois de septembre et octobre, soit notre ami Pierre, de Montréal, qui travaillait à Toronto en ce début de son année sabbatique. C'est avec *grand* regret qu'il a dû nous quitter pour terminer son année à Hawaii, d'où il se rendra ensuite en France! :-)

Nous avons eu plusieurs autres visiteurs cette année (Karen, Anthony, Linnea, et Peter, Pauline et Laurianne, Raymonde et Marcel, Hil, Claire, Martin et Anne, les Ice Bears, ainsi que plusieurs autres), de divers endroits comme Sudbury, Ottawa, Val Brillant, Kitchener, Peterborough et, évidemment, de la région du grand métropolitain de Toronto. Si jamais vous êtes dans le coin, n'hésitez pas à nous rendre visite ... Marc se fera un grand plaisir de préparer une pile de crêpes avec du vrai sirop d'érable pour ceux et celles qui passeront la nuit chez nous!

Cette année, nous irons célébrer Noël dans la famille d'Andria à Peterborough. Nous espérons pouvoir aller à Sudbury et célébrer la nouvelle année dans la famille de Marc.
